Origin: Beetroot ‘Chioggia’ is a historic Italian heirloom variety originating from the coastal town of Chioggia near Venice, prized for its distinctive concentric ring pattern and sweet flavour
Flavour: Mild, sweet, and delicate with less earthy intensity than traditional dark red beetroot varieties
Best place to grow: Thrives in open fields, raised beds, and fertile vegetable gardens with loose well-drained soil in full sun
Fun Fact: ‘Chioggia’ is often called the “Candy Stripe Beet” because of its striking red and white rings revealed when sliced
Shape, size & colour: Produces smooth round roots with pale red skin and beautiful alternating pink-red and white internal rings beneath fresh green foliage lightly flushed with red
